There was also few with VG30E engines, but i think it was about 1/20 of them. Most of them have been sold to Taxi's, thats another reason for diesel.
LD28 will last forever, thats not a secret. Only body will rust away... This one even doesnt have many km on meter, compared to few others over here...
Ratdat, was it FinnJae at Riihimäki? Then we have maybe met...
I went to the first FinnJAE (2001) in a blue C130 Laurel saloon and I had a white 411 Bluebird there too which I bought while I was over there. I was there again in '03 looking for parts in scrapyards but it was the wrong time of year so didn't go to the FinnJAE then. I'd really like to go to that event again some time!
Nice buy! I saw about a dozen of these when I was in Finland for a few days back in '03 and every one was Diesel. Did they only sell Diesel Y30's there? They had 'Cedric' badging on the rear too which ours in the UK never got (they were sold as 300C here).
As far as I know C31s came in 3 two tone options, brown over gold, maroon over grey and blue over silver, all with a pinstripe as a divide between the colours. Maybe I am mistaken and that the brown over gold is actually maroon over gold and that the gold brings out the brown more in the pictures in the brochures. I should have a color chart listing the numbers somewhere but can't find it at the moment, been digging everywhere and haven't come up with it yet. From the Japanese brochures I know the blue over silver is known as #164 (#003 over #006) or #254 (#232 over #006) from the '84 model year on, the maroon over grey is #164 (#931 over ??), they didn't get the brown over gold in Japan. One other thing i noticed is that the two tones only appeared on the facelift models in Japan What colour number is there on your vin plate?
The plate says 931, so maybe it was just Maroon originally and not two tone? I have the original bill of sale and it lists Metallic paint as one of the options paid for but no mention of two tone which was also an extra.
I buffed up a set of Weds wheels I had in the shed and put them on it. I bought these from japan a couple of years ago but never had a use for them unti now. They are 7x14.
I've also replaced the povvo spec looking black plastic grille...
With a completely chrome one...
I have a proper Laurel bonnet mascot to go on instead of the badge when I repaint the bonnet.
Looks alright! Late one with electronic ignition then? I know the auto ‘box has lock-up, but it’s a shame they didn’t have overdrive on these as that’s always put me off them a bit. I seem to recall that the battery tray area was a bit rot-prone on them, plus the front arches.
Didn’t these have a specific paint code for the two-tone option? If so the CRECS database might be able to tell you if it was originally.
It’d be interesting to see one of these with well-chosen wheels and a bit of attention to stance. Get a Medalist grille on there too for added chintziness. Hey, why not drop an RB in it too? I like the L24 in my C230, but I think by the time of the C32 it was getting on a bit.
Yep, it's got the electronic ignition thankfully. The battery tray is okay but the RH front arch needs a bit of fettling.
I seem to remember there being colour chips for all of the two tone jobs amongst your Datsun Uk file. I don't think I scanned them or kept any record though. I might have a retail colour card amongst my stuff somewhere.
It's getting some nice Japanese wheels and will be lowered a little so it sits right. I've got three of the rims polished, just got to do the last then paint the centres.
Funnily enough, I've only just realised how cheap RB's are getting now, although I doubt I'll go down that route. If an L28 i good shape comes my way i migth drop that in though.
I've already got my eye on the Japanese auctions for a grille. It's the one thing that lets UK spec C31's down. They really need some chrome on the grille! Sadly, there's no much stuff for C31's on the auctions but you never know, something might turn up.
It's been a while since I've bought a Datsun but I couldn't resist this as it was less than 5 miles from my house. I'm liking it lots. ;D
It needs a bit of work around the lower edges of the body but nothing to dramatic. It'll need the lower half repainting and could do with the bonnet painting too. Interior is lush! Runs and drives perfectly.
Im on the hunt for a Datsun or Nissan pickup bed to use as the basis for a custom trailer. It can be tatty/rusty as it doesn't need to look pretty or be hugely sturdy as Ill be building a box section frame to mount it on anyway.
Needs to have the tailgate too (preferably with the big 'DATSUN' or 'NISSAN' stamped into the panel) so I can slide things like engines etc into it.
Ill also be on the lookout for a rear axle assembly c/w leaves etc for its running gear... preferably Nissan 5-stud fitment so I can match the wheels to the Cedric - but this isnt 100% neccessary
Not in any mad rush either, but thought Id put the feelers out
Crikey, you'll be lucky! The bed is the first bit to rot away on Datsun pickups! I've got a new 620 tailgate I reckon you could use to make a half respectable looking stepside. Might even have two of them.
No clock is pretty tight, at least when I see one of those driving school cars going about I can be all smug about the fact that I've got a clock. A dead one. Did yours have the remote control fender mirrors? The switch is missing on mine (actually missing, not blanked off) so I'll have to obtain one and see if it works. There's an ISO connector there so who knows.
They'd been taken off when I got it. Don't remember there being any remote switch for them though...
