There was also a Compagno Berlina Estate on eBay a few years ago, it needed some fairly major restoration by the looks of it. Went for something like a grand. Not seen anything of it since though.
The Compagno really is a brilliant looking car, isn't it? Incredibly cute looking thing - apparently the convertible was styled by Vignale, but I think the original car was a Daihatsu in-house design. Can't get a straight story on that one.
Another little snippet on these cars in the UK has come to light from "Car" magazine in 1968:
"Daihatsu sent some cars over a few years ago and entrusted sales to a firm called Dufay (Birmingham) who were already selling Japanese cameras and radios. This proved to be no preparation for a foray into the motor business and hindered also by the uncompetitiveness of the 800 they sold a mere six cars in five years and quietly faded away"
Blimey, only 6 Compagnos in the UK. That means that with 2 (or maybe 3 with the estate Hirst mentioned) known survivors that's actually an excellent survival rate!
Apart from the Road test car anyone know whereabouts of the others and did all bodystyles sell?
