This is the brochure at Proton dealerships in 1991. I also have the 1989 brochure (when Proton was launched in the UK) and can tell you all that this 1991 brochure differs from the 1989 one in only 2 ways. 1) The stripe mentioning 12 valve models on the front cover. 2) The "movie poster" middle pages detailing the 12 valve models.
Apart from that, it is identical to the 1989 brochure and all information and technical specifications inside still refer to the 1989 8 valve models only.
Fantastic image. Nothing says quality better than a Michael Jackson impersonator. Considering the brochure and car release, even the idea of using 'Thriller' and all this 'high speed action' lingo was well out of date. Not that Protons non-discerning client base would have noticed.
But those red hub covers is where its at. I can't say I've ever seen this on a UK car.
Seeing as the early Malaysian cars are old Mitsubishis, it seems daft not to really.
I used to drive a 1994 Proton MPi a while ago (their tagline should be 'ancient technology in horrible tinny cars') and was surprised to see the interior was identical to a Lancer which was 12 years younger. Though it wasn't brown.
