I'm very excited to show you all a "works" car which I had seen whilst in Kuala Lumpur back in 1992-1993. As the thread title suggests, it's a Datsun 160J SSS KP710 Violet prepared by the factory for FIA 3rd generation Group 5 racing specs back in 1974. It has a never before seen online(as far as I know) earlier version of the LZ18 engine (in that turbocharged configuration). From conversation with racing folks of Kuala Lumpur back in 1993, I was told and from memory that 2 or 3 of these cars were brought in from Japan and raced under the banner of the Malaysian Datsun sole distributor, Tan Chong & Sons Motor Co. Sdn. Bhd.
Car no.123 won the Batu Tiga Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia Grand Prix of 1974 driven by well known Kunimitsu Takahashi and was promptly shipped back to Japan. Nichimo, the Japanese scale model maker got the rights to make moulds for a 1/24 scale model of the car. That model does not show what the engine looks like! As far as I know, car no.120 was the only one retained at Tan Chong & Sons Motor, perhaps as a memorial. In online web reviews of Japanese museum, strangely, I have never seen that car.
Car no. 120
1974 LZ18 Turbo that is unlike any of the turbocharged LZ20Bs from the late 80s.

I hope you all enjoyed this. I have a lot more to say about this car :-).
This is very interesting. Thanks for sharing it here. I hope the car still survives and will one day be restored to working order.
Do you have any information to share about the Proton Super Saga cars of the 1980s, and later Super Iswara?
Yes, restoration is underway. Sorry I do not have information regarding the Proton Super Sagas and Iswaras. I kind of missed that era too, being overseas for education. Well, do post and share when you get enough info.
