All the messages have been deleted (I only removed the last one, someone else must have done the rest - cheers!), member is also banned and deleted from members, as if they never existed. These are just bots trying to get their search rankings up, best thing is to just remove every trace.
Anyway, there is a minor update - I've been tidying up the scans I've got and getting them into more of an order and also redoing some of them to be higher resolution, as originally I would do them to 640 width (or smaller). Now we're looking at most of them to be 800 width, with a few bigger for special ones where extra detail will be lost - it'll cost more in bandwidth but it'll be worth it. Really I should be getting the database itself started, it will be, just bear with me a while!
But as a little side project, I've also been working on translating the description parts of Japanese specification sheets on brochures. Hard to explain - basically, instead of just putting up the scan of the back of a Japanese brochure, where you can just pick out obvious things like length/width/engine size, we'll be able to translate entire spec sheets fairly easily and offer that up. I'm going to be doing a new topic about that probably this weekend as some assistance will probably be needed from someone with more experience than Babelfish translator.
I just wish I had more time to contribute to the scanning, database etc. Got so much raw ,aterial stashed away that deserves to be shared, not sat in plastic boxes in my shed. Hopefully when work on the house eases off a bit...
It was me who did the deleting, I thought there was one message I'd missed so well done on picking that up Hirst.
In the last few days and weeks, I noticed a massive decrease of postings and users online. Sometimes I spy to autoshite.com and there are nearly all the users here a lot more active. There is even more OJC-stuff going on, I think.
What´s the matter with oldjapanesecar.com? I first signed up in feburary (altough the letters under my username show a different date ) and there was a lot more going on here, compared to now.
I always tried to take part regularly here and I started a few topics that need to be discussed, but latley I notice a lack of interest of the members of this board. There are only very few of the members actviely posting messages and discussig such topics as "Disadvantages from Japan" or "Cargoals 2009" for example.
Winter tends to be quite harsh on car forums in my experience, not many people are working on their cars because it's cold and dark, there's no shows to go to and in the case of some older car owners a lot of them take their cars off the road for winter entirely! Autoshite is a bigger forum and has always been busier than us, even though you say it's more active at this time, it's quiet compared to the usual.
The best thing to do is create some new content for people to talk about, I've been doing some scans to knock up a thread about the Charade G11 and all its weird variations, including the DeTomaso version, the cancelled 926R rally car, the 100mpg+ Diesel Turbo and more. It'll be like the Tredia thread, except at the end Mike probably won't buy a real one.
Don't get too disheartend Lukas, we're all still here!
I try to post anything specifically Japanese here rather than Autoshite but there is the inevitable crossover.
I too have a load of scans but it's such a pain loading stuff onto Photobucket and I'm a bit impatient! I just got a nice little bunch of unusual brochures for a fiver off eBay and unless Michiel has already done them I'll try and get them up here.
Lukas, if there is something posted I feel I know enough about to comment on, I will. Sadly my previous motoring area of interest was pre 1960, and therefore I am not informed in this area. I find it very confusing as a lot of Japanese cars owners quote body and engine codes, not year and model. I bought the Honda because I realised that early Japanese cars were under represented on the 'classic car scene' in GB and because of that, being scrapped. I have encountered incredible prejudice regarding the Honda in some shows, until I started asking "When did you last see one?" Forums ebb and flow, and this is the best one I have found both for subject interest and practical help. John
As mentioned before many forums tend to go through quiet periods, but as you demonstrated on your awareness of the Autoshite forum, many people tend to view and not participate - not that this is a bad thing, many of these forums are a decent source of information and you have the choice to participate or not. I tend to think that sometimes its unnecessary to comment on everything, unless the information is particularly interesting, useful or even completely wrong - there is an awful lot of information out there about Japanese cars which is assumed to be correct. Hopefully as the forum (which is bearly a year old) will gain momentum and attract Japanese car fans from all over the world. And then our work will be done, and I can get back to getting a life....
I really don´t want to make a reproach, you two and a few others here are the "souls" of this forum, without Hirst, michiel, thedoctor and the other regular users, it would have been already like a Ghost Town...
The thing is: I don´t know why so few members visit this board and why there are so few new posting. It seems no one want to discuss things (except you ) and why there are so few new topics about whatever OJC-related.
@ all: I really don´t want to offend you, spottedlaurel, but you Camry-add is a very good example for the thing I am talking about.
Pretty much a repeat of my ad on Autoshite...
Why didnt you post it here first and repeat it on autoshite? Your add is just an example, I have read a lot of times here that postings are a repeat of autoshite, or the posting is copied from RetroRides etc. ... I think this is sad because for me who isnt a member of autoshite or retrorides this forum here sometimes looks like the third wheel on dare. Before I got here, I didnt even know of autoshite or retrorides, but it seems these two board are the "home on the internet" of most members here. If it is like that, it is ok, but I needed a little time to discover that... ;D
